Many people discover the International Perfume Foundation through our Certified Natural Perfumers, educational programs, events, awards or our work promoting Natural Perfumery around the world.
But IPF is much more than what you see at an event or on social media.
Founded in Belgium in 1995, the International Perfume Foundation was created with a long-term vision: to preserve, develop and transmit the cultural, scientific, artistic and natural heritage of perfume.
More than three decades later, that mission has grown into an international ecosystem encompassing heritage, education, research, certification, professional standards, publications, cultural initiatives and international cooperation.
A New Institutional Chapter
On 23 July 2026, the Extraordinary General Assembly adopted the new Coordinated Statutes of the International Perfume Foundation which were officially published in the Annexes of the Belgian Official Gazette on 9 September 2026.
Across 78 articles, the Statutes establish the institutional framework of IPF and reflect the considerable evolution of the Foundation since its creation.
They define not only how IPF is governed, but also the principles behind its activities, certifications, labels, educational programs, research, publications and international initiatives.
Nature at the Heart of Our Mission
One principle runs throughout the Statutes: the importance of preserving a perfumery tradition founded on natural raw materials.
For IPF, Natural Perfumery is not simply a contemporary trend. It belongs to a much longer history connecting plants, aromatic materials, craftsmanship, culture, creativity and human knowledge.
Preserving this heritage also means preserving the knowledge surrounding it — from cultivation and sourcing to transformation, composition, education and transmission. This is why IPF’s work increasingly encompasses the entire natural perfume ecosystem.
Preserving the Past — Building the Future
Heritage does not mean remaining in the past.
The new Statutes recognise that scientific, technical, historical and educational knowledge evolves. IPF can therefore continue developing its standards, certifications, labels, educational programs and methodologies while remaining faithful to its founding principles.
This balance between heritage and responsible innovation is fundamental to our vision of the future.
We want future generations not only to know that Natural Perfumery exists, but to have access to its materials, knowledge, techniques, and culture — and to have the freedom to continue creating with them.
More Than 30 Years — One Continuing Mission
The publication of our Coordinated Statutes is therefore much more than an administrative milestone. It is an opportunity to clearly state who we are.
IPF is an international organisation built around preservation, transmission, education, excellence, cooperation and respect for Nature.
And as our activities continue to expand internationally, these Statutes provide the foundation for the next generation of IPF projects.
Preserve the heritage.
Transmit the knowledge.
Respect Nature.
Shape the future of Perfumery.
