NATURAL PERFUMERY CERTIFICATION
In keeping with our Mission to promote Natural Perfumery, and insure that all stakeholders work together towards common goals, the International Perfume Foundation has launched the Natural Perfumery Certification Program.
The IPF Natural Perfumery Certification Program will include Everyone in the perfume and skin care supply chain, from schools to perfumers, growers, suppliers, retailers, and media.
The program will not certify essential oils, perfumes and skin care as products but rather the individuals producing Natural Essential Oils, Natural Perfumes and Natural Skin Care Products.
The ultimate purpose for IPF’s Certification Program is to insure that consumers have legitimate choices of Pure and Natural Perfumes and Skin Care Products for their enjoyment and wellbeing in the same way they care for the food they buy for themselves and their families. Increasingly, consumers are looking for perfumes that not only look beautiful and have desirable fragrances, but are also natural and sustainable.
"Turning our backs on nature poses great risks and we are here to preserve our vital heritage by sharing our knowledge, experience and research " Creezy Courtoy, IPF Chairman
There are several lines of connection in designing and formulating natural skin care products and natural perfumes.
Designing and formulating natural skin care products and natural perfumes has many common points both directly and indirectly.
Each formula of pure natural skin care products is handcrafted and made of artisanal concentrated blends of natural carrier and pure, natural essential oils, extracts and infusions of herbs, fruits, vegetables, algae, lichens, mushrooms, and resins. Most of these ingredients are also materials for natural perfumery as well. Additionally, natural skin care apothecary requires additions of waxes, natural preservatives, some minerals, marine extracts and marine margin plants, natural colors, gums, and thickeners which are not direct part of natural perfumery. Once a natural skin care product is compounded, it doesn’t always have a pleasant smell which can be improved using natural fragrant materials to match the ingredients in the formula. Some of the most useful ingredients are botanical extracts and essential oils which play the role of penetration enhancer agents. However, some natural emollients, natural preservatives can provide a pleasant, fragrant smell to natural skin care products too.
Even though at first look natural skin care products and natural perfumes do not appear to have much in common, they are directly connected by virtue of using the same materials for their design, formulation and final compounding.
The IPF Certified Natural Perfumery Directory will be published during the International Perfume Foundation's 2016-2017 campaign RECONNECT WITH NATURE.
“Reconnect with Nature” is a campaign of awareness about the vital importance of our connection with nature.
Since antiquity, perfume and skin care products have always accompanied people’s lives and have always been an important part of human history.
Today, our campaign gives Natural Perfume and Skin Care Products a voice towards more awareness of the human need to reconnect with nature, as well as to recover and to protect our precious heritage.
