Without question, no other organization in Natural Perfumery has contributed more (and will continue to do so) than IPF and our positive vision for the future of Natural Perfumery.
Here are the main values of IPF to Natural Perfumery:
- IPF is the industry leader in emphasizing the great importance of combining natural perfumery and aromatherapy. This process enhances the value of both aromatherapy and natural perfumery and supports greater consumer satisfaction with natural essences. Consider the importance of olfaction and olfactory training alone. Rather than teaching the physiology of olfaction, others have focused on perfume as a cosmetic but rarely as something we breathe; and we breathe around 23000 times a day. But perfume is more than a good smell. It goes to our lungs, blood and organs faster than any medicine we swallow, and that is why IPF is committed to remain the dominant voice in advocating natural perfumes for your heath’s sake.
- IPF’s New Luxury Code of respect unifies the natural essence supply chain community and is a reminder of how we all need to conduct ourselves and our businesses.
- IPF/SEOS certification elevates the entire supply chain with the highest sustainable standards in the world. IPF’s certifications assure consumers transparently receive products they can trust and have confidence in. https://www.essentialoilstandards.com/
- IPF’s Natural Perfumery Teacher’s Academy welcomes everyone within the natural essence supply chain community to become better educated and more professional. IPF is also working on regional educational programs to position the Teacher’s Academy in many key locations, so many more people will have access to this vital education worldwide. https://www.teachers-academy.org/
- IPF is working with regions throughout the world to help preserve, promote and develop the worldwide culture and heritage of natural perfumery. This long-term commitment answers the questions: What kind of world will we leave to our children and their children? Do we leave them a world without flowers, pollinators, or important aromatic and medicinal plants that have provided health benefits to humans for thousands of years?
What is at stake here is billions of dollars of future sales of natural essences that can be achieved through support of IPF programs which is necessary for these two opportunities to occur:
- A little more than one hundred years ago, there were no synthetic perfumes. Now, they represent 99% of the market. Yet consumers continue to seek natural products in much that they purchase. Every consumer receives important benefits from reconnecting with nature by insisting on natural perfumes and every 1% consumer shift from the $50 billion synthetic perfumes to natural perfumes represents $500 million USD in additional natural perfume sales.
- Thirty years-ago certified aromatherapists had 100% of the essential oils for aromatherapy market. Fast forward to today: Certified aromatherapists have less than 4% of the market. From a marketing perspective, there is a near void in the high-value, sustainable natural essence market that will be filled by aromatherapists following the guidance of the International Perfume Foundation. This gap could easily be as much as 20% of the current $6 billion USD market that is projected to grow to $8 billion within 5 years. That is a $1.6 billion USD niche market potential that some will be taking advantage of over the next several years.
